Cedar Court Hotel Champions Community Spirit at KACCL 2023

24th December 2023

In an inspiring display of community spirit and generosity, the Kirklees and Calderdale Charity Lunch (KACCL) 2023, hosted at our prestigious Cedar Court Hotel Huddersfield, has successfully raised an impressive £30,000. This remarkable sum is dedicated to aiding young people in the Kirklees and Calderdale areas.

This year’s charity dinner, a grand banqueting event and a cornerstone of the local business and philanthropic calendar since 2016, has cumulatively raised over £165,000 for charity. Nearly 300 distinguished business leaders gathered at Cedar Court Hotel Huddersfield for this significant event in Huddersfield, supporting two noble causes: Project Youth Cancer and Project Challenge. Project Youth Cancer offers vital support to teenagers and young adults battling cancer, while Project Challenge provides innovative training programs for young individuals distanced from conventional education.

The 2023 KACCL, enriched with entertainment and heartfelt moments, was masterfully compared by comedian Pete Emmett. Attendees were treated to performances by the local magician’s circle and the melodious Orange Box Choir, a group birthed from the funds raised at the second KACCL event and a regular performer at subsequent gatherings.

Highlighting the evening was a moving speech by Sarah Dransfield, Project Youth Cancer ambassador. Sarah, who faced a life-altering battle with osteosarcoma at 16, shared her journey and the invaluable support she received from the charity. Her story and positive outlook were a powerful reminder of the impact of community support.

Steve Crowther, chair of the KACCL Committee and managing director of Crowther Chartered Accountants, reflected on the event’s success. “We are deeply moved by the local business community’s generosity. Their contributions ensure continued support for these vital causes, echoing the spirit of community that KACCL and Cedar Court Hotel stand for.”

Helen Mervill, head of operations at Project Youth Cancer, and Lorna Butterick, business manager at Project Challenge, expressed profound gratitude for the funds raised. These donations will significantly enhance the support of young individuals battling cancer and those seeking alternative educational pathways.

Since its inception, Cedar Court Hotel, a proud host of the KACCL, remains committed to fostering community engagement and support. As we look forward to future events in Huddersfield, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to all participants and donors who make these achievements possible. Together, we continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people across Kirklees and Calderdale.
