The Grand Départ has arrived!
Tour De France teams check-in to Harrogate and Huddersfield
The bunting is up and bikes have been painted yellow – all that was missing in Harrogate as the town gears up for the Tour de France was the competitors and their extensive support organisations. But that’s all changed with the first teams checking-in at the four star Cedar Court Hotel, Harrogate.
Russian cycling team, Team Katusha, arrived en-mass at the hotel first with their branded vehicles and extensive kit supplies – they even shipped in their own washing machine, which was quickly setup and in operation in the venue’s car park shortly after arrival.
On-going arrangements for the stay have been completed through a translator as the two organisations work together to ensure the competitors’ needs are met and their stay in North Yorkshire is truly memorable.
Austrailian outfit, ORICA GreenEDGE arrived the following day with the hotel's car park starting to fill up with support vehicles and coaches. French team COFIDIS have also checked-in completing Cedar Court Hotel Harrogate's Tour de France line up. The question is, is the winner of the Tour de France 2014 currently one of our guests?
The buzz is building
Simon Cotton, General Manager at Cedar Court Hotel Harrogate, commented:
"There’s been a palpable build up in the buzz and excitement surrounding the Tour de France in both the hotel and in the town in general but that’s stepped up a level now the teams have started to arrive. We are delighted to be the base for three of the teams heading to Harrogate for the Grand Départ as well as welcoming spectators visiting the area from all over the globe."
Cav signs up in Huddersfield!
Away from Harrogate, Cedar Court Hotel, Huddersfield/Halifax
welcomed the Omega Pharma Quick-Step
team which features the irrepressible sprinter Mark Cavendish MBE. Returning to his mother's hometown of Harrogate for Stage 1, the "Manx Missle" with be a strong contender for the points leader's green jersey with many tipping him to be wearing yellow at the end of the first day.
No doubt looking to increase his number of stage wins - already the highest total amassed by a sprinter - Cavendish and the rest of the Omega Pharma Quick-Step team were seen departing on Wednesday morning, ready to practice on the roads of Yorkshire but not before he'd signed our cycling jersery which is proudly on display.
It's all extremely exciting!
