The sun was out, not a cloud in the sky (yes, that really does happen in Yorkshire!) so on Saturday we headed for some outdoor fun to Shibden Park in Halifax. Located just 6 miles from the Cedar Court Huddersfield-Halifax Hotel, the park is set in the grounds of a beautiful, Medieval, timber framed hall.
A good spot for gentle walking (apparently) but we were ready for some fun! They have a great little boating lake, not too deep, with little rowing boats easily fitting a family of 4 inside. We were 4 adults, so we let the boys take the oars as we potted on the lake with the ducks.
For lunch most people had brought picnics, the park has plenty of benches and loads of green open space on the hillside next to the lake for car-rugs! We couldn’t resist an ice lolly from the café located near to the little children’s train that chugs around the park.
On the hillside is a good playground that seemed to be keeping kids very amused. No trip to the park is complete without a round of Pitch and Put and the 9 hole course was a good place for some competition to round off the day!
Parking was £1 for a full day.
For 4 adults to play Pitch and Put and go on the rowing lake it was just £12.50 in total!
A great value outing, with kids we could have easily filled a day in the park.
