I take my daughter, Anjule, to RHS Garden Harlow Carr
in Harrogate all the time. It’s a great place for families, with a treehouse in the woods, a playground, a Betty’s Café and loads of things for kids to do. Anjule has learnt all about nature and how things grow from our visits there and I think it’s really sparked her imagination. It’s like an absolutely enormous garden and it’s completely safe, so it’s heaven for kids – and parents.
We go so often that I’ve bought a membership pass but because it’s always changing with the seasons, every visit is different. The picture above was taken in the Autumn, which is probably my favourite time of year because of the gorgeous colours.
We also go to Bolton Abbey
a lot, as well as Valley Gardens
in Harrogate, which is an absolutely beautiful park in the town centre. My daughter’s birthday is Halloween so we’ll be taking her to Stockeld Park
, which does great seasonal activities including pumpkin carving with kids. At Christmas they turn it into a Christmas wonderland which is really popular.
I’d love to have a holiday here myself – just to have a week and do everything! Sometimes I stop and think, ‘we are so lucky to have so much to see and do nearby’.
For a holiday there couldn’t be a better place to choose than Harrogate. There is tons of stuff to do: whether you want the outdoors, theatre, shopping, a night out or the Turkish baths. You couldn’t possibly get bored with all there is to do.
I’d love to have a holiday here myself – just to have a week and do everything! Sometimes I stop and think, ‘we are so lucky to have so much to see and do nearby’. There’s a big brochure in the bedrooms and sometimes I look through it and realise all the places I still haven’t been!
I grew up near Scarborough so I love the coast. It was like being on holiday all the time – when we finished school we’d go down to the beach and Scarborough is a lovely bustling town with things happening all the year round.
I’ve worked at Cedar Court Hotel Harrogate since 1999. I was part of the opening team - the hotel was still a building site when I first came!
There’s a real family atmosphere at the hotel. Lots of the staff have worked here for years and we’ve got to know each other really well as friends as well as colleagues. I’ve seen people’s lives develop, as they’ve got married and had families, which is a real pleasure.
For me, my job is like playing house. I’m a very homely person and it’s like an extension of home – like being in an enormous doll’s house that it’s my responsibility to take care of. It’s like every girl’s dream!
