Cedar Court Hotels appoint industry high achiever as General Manager for Cedar Court Grand Hotel & Spa in York

Cedar Court Hotels, Yorkshire’s largest independent hotel group, has appointed an industry high achiever as General Manager for its new £20m hotel in York, Cedar Court Grand Hotel & Spa.

Andrew Coney has vast hospitality experience, having held General Manager roles in some of the country’s leading hotels, including the 5-star Waldorf and The Cavendish (both in London), and, more recently, Slaley Hall Hotel & Golf Resort in Northumberland.

Andrew said:

“The former North Eastern Railway Company (NERC) headquarters is one of York’s most iconic buildings, so there is considerable anticipation in the city about its reinvention as Cedar Court Grand Hotel & Spa. When it’s unveiled early next year, ‘The Grand’ will become a new landmark in York – bringing exceptional standards of service, accommodation and style to the city.

“The NERC building was constructed during the golden age of the railways and, in creating The Grand, we intend to revive the glamour, panache and luxury of that era, with a contemporary twist and lavish modern-day comforts.”

“This is an almost unique opportunity: a chance to open a new hotel in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, working for an organisation that is genuinely committed to principles of quality service. Our ambition is to create York’s first 5-star hotel, and we will achieve that through meticulous attention to detail.

Cedar Court Grand Hotel & Spa opens next Spring and will boast 107 bedrooms - each one totally individual and enhanced by the impressive architectural features of the building. On the higher floors the rooms will be ‘loft style’, with outstanding views overlooking the city walls.

The facilities at The Grand will include five beautifully appointed meeting rooms for up to 20 people, the Directors room (once the Chairman’s office) which can accommodate up to 40 and the Boardroom – a hugely impressive, wood-paneled room capable of hosting 120 guests.

A decking area overlooking the York wall will be spacious enough to accommodate a marquee for 300, and a cocktail bar, restaurant and private dining rooms will provide a choice of sophisticated spaces and places to meet, relax and dine.

An exclusive Spa will offer luxurious, bespoke treatments, along with a sauna room, steam room, pool and gym.

Cedar Court Grand will add to Cedar Court’s existing portfolio of four-star hotels across Yorkshire, including Harrogate, Wakefield, Huddersfield/Halifax and Leeds/Bradford.
